The Mountain Art Quilters are a group of non-traditional quilters that focus on using a wide variety of techniques, including paint, fabric manipulation, rusting, dyeing, and surface embellishments, some quite unusual. The group is centered in Asheville, NC.
Triptychs have been popular from the Middle Ages to the present day, first as altar pieces, and then in various forms and media. The task for members of Mountain Art Quilters was to challenge themselves by creating a three-part art quilt that meets the definition of a triptych. The three parts can speak as a whole, and can be abstract or representational, in whatever style of art quilt the artist chooses.
